Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković”

The prime work of the Institute from its inception until the present day has been continuous scientific research, the basic aim of which is the advancement of scientific thought in the field of biology. Research at the Institute focuses on the following scientific disciplines: biochemistry, molecular biology, cytology, animal physiology, plant physiology, neurobiology, neurophysiology, immunology, genetics, aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem ecology, environmental protection, taxonomy and organic evolution. In addition to advancing scientific knowledge in these fields, all of the research is important for the development of other fields which have biology at their root (medicine, forestry, pharmacy, agriculture, biotechnology, etc.). The results obtained from basic biological research can, as a final goal, be applied in all fields of social development in which biology has a contribution to make.
